WELCOME
2008 Winners: Pot Bellied Farmers

Welcome to the Harper PBF website which has been set up as a one stop shop for all you need to know about the Annual Christmas Charity Rugby Tournament.

This site can be used before and after the event which is held on the first available day after Boxing Day each year. Over the years we gather photos, and anything else people wish to publish that we won’t get locked up for. This is the 4th year so we hope the site is getting better as each year passes, and builds up a ‘colourful’ picture.

This year the event is to be held on Saturday December 27th 2009, at the usual venue of Buckingham Rugby Club, with games starting at 1300hrs.

This tournament is a round robin affair with 4 teams and games lasting 10 minutes each way, which is usually enough for plenty of action and excitement. During the day the bar will be open with pig roast and other refreshments available to spectators. We look forward to seeing as many people as possible during the games and afterwards in the clubhouse, where there is a disco and no excuse for anyone 'not to get on it'!

This is always a thoroughly enjoyable day and night so don’t miss out!

Background

We change the beneficiaries each year and keep it relevant to those that need it who have some association with the club. This year we are supporting:

  • Kirk Nokes Memorial Fund. Kirk was a young lad who was going to vice captain Buckingham 3rd XV this year, with his father being the captain. He died in a car crash in June so in his memory the club set up this fund which will benefit a deserving young player each year by way of providing dedicated rugby coaching sessions at a professional level.

  • CICRA is a charity that benefits children with crohns and colitis. Julian Cook’s youngest son was diagnosed with crohns a couple of years ago and has since had major corrective surgery to make him better. Because crohns isn’t necessarily life threatening it is treated as low priority by the health service despite the fact that the number of suffers are nearly doubling every year. CICRA funds research into the cause and effect on children…

  • Stoke Mandeville Paediatric Unit needs toys for a new ward that has nothing for Jamie Wood (Murray Bateman’s nephew – Simon & Jenny Woods son) to do whilst he is in isolation – he has to be alone when having radio & chemo as he is vulnerable to all sorts and can’t risk catching anything.
